The Ukrainian people are showing great courage and strength in the face of an appalling Russian onslaught and we need to support them – including through giving sanctuary to those fleeing war in Europe as we have done in generations past.
The UK’s Ukraine Family Scheme is now live, to support Ukrainians in joining family in the UK. You can find more information here.
Many people in Leicester are asking how they can best support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. Estimates suggest there are already over 2.9 million people in need, and this is only going to increase. City of Sanctuary have put together a list of suggestions on how to support the people of Ukraine. Read it here. Leicester’s Ukrainian club are also doing a huge amount to arrange for donations to be sent to those in need. You can find out more about how you can get involved here and here.
The government is also matching public donations to this appeal pound-for-pound up to £25 million.
