The Chancellor’s Spring Statement fails to deliver

Yesterday, the Chancellor announced his Spring Statement. People across the country are worried sick about the spiralling cost-of-living crisis, but Rishi Sunak failed to provide them with the support they need.

The Chancellor had a choice. He could have scrapped his unfair national insurance hike and introduced a windfall tax to bring down soaring energy bills, but instead, he chose to press ahead with his high tax, low growth policies. The Chancellor failed to rise to the scale of the challenge. Now the country faces the biggest fall in living standards since the 1950s, 1.3 million people are set to be pushed into poverty and 7 out of 8 working people will be clobbered with tax rises in the years ahead.

This tax raising Chancellor is out of touch, and his failure to tackle the cost-of-living crisis has been given a crushing verdict by people in Leicester.

Labour would tax fairly, spend wisely, and grow our economy. You can watch Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, respond the Spring Statement here or read it here
