It was an incredible privilege and honour to meet Aung San Suu Kyi, the leader of the National League for Democracy in Burma, when she came to a meeting of Labour’s shadow cabinet.
She spoke about the huge challenges facing Burma and the vital role Opposition parties play in genuine democracies.
It made me think that sometimes we take our democracy in Britain for granted. For all the problems in politics and the cynicism that many people understandably feel, we should be proud of our democracy and always fight to protect it.
