Earlier today I joined a demonstration against the closure of Glenfield’s children’s heart surgery unit and the move of our paediatric ECMO services from Leicester to Birmingham. We had a fantastic turn-out, and I am very grateful to everyone who came to Westminster to help raise awareness of the potentially grave consequences of this decision.

I am pressing the Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt MP for an immediate meeting, so he can hear at first hand the clinical evidence about the risks of moving services from Glenfield to Birmingham. I will continue to fight to make sure this evidence is fully considered, and the views and voices of local people are heard.
