Since the Government announced its latest review into the future of children’s heart surgery back in June 2013, I’ve been working with Glenfield and its supporters to ensure that NHS England puts the clinical evidence and the quality of care at the heart of their decisions.
On Friday, NHS England held a consultation event in Leicester on the draft standards that will be used to assess and change heart services going forward. These present significant challenges and opportunities for heart surgery in Leicester, which include the possibly of moving children’s heart surgery from Glenfield to the LRI so that the unit shares the same location as other children’s services. I’d encourage all of my constituents to give their feedback during this consultation by completing the online form by 8th December. More information is available here.
