Liz speaks in debate on care workers

west hall 2

On Wednesday 5 November I spoke in a Westminster Hall debate on the situation faced by Britain’s homecare workers.

Care staff do an incredibly important job looking after older and disabled people, but they are undervalued, underpaid and undertrained. Hundreds of thousands are on zero-hours contracts and don’t even get the National Minimum Wage, let alone a living wage, because they are not paid travel times between appointments – as recent research by Unison has shown.

In the debate, I set out how Ministers need to do far more to tackle this, and what a Labour government would do to help put things right. You can read my speech here.
