Liz signs pledge for HIV testing campaign

Aidsday

To mark World AIDS Day, I signed the ‘Halve It Pledge’ with by fellow Leicester MPs Jon Ashworth and Keith Vaz, the City Council and HIV charities.

Leicester has the 6th highest rate of late diagnosis of HIV in the country and the ‘Halve It Pledge’ commits the City to halving late diagnoses by 2020 and ensuring there are a variety of ways to test for HIV.

This is such an important campaign and I was delighted to support it. Whilst HIV is no longer a life threatening condition, early detection means the virus can be managed and treated and lowers the risk of passing the virus onto others. I applaud the fantastic work of charities, such Leicestershire Aids Support Service (LASS) who are offering free drop in testing sessions and continue to work tirelessly to promote the campaign.
