One of my constituents, Mr Hardy, recently told me about the difficulties he has been having getting mental health care under patient choice.
The right to patient choice within the NHS gives patients access to an alternative service should they feel they would benefit from treatment elsewhere. However, despite a number of referrals, Mr Hardy had not been able to get the care he wanted.
I raised this issue with the Secretary of State for Health, and as a result I am very pleased to say that Mr Hardy’s referral to another service provider has been accepted and he is going to start treatment next month.
