Today I met with Leicester City of Sanctuary in Parliament to hear how the charity supports refugees who have been displaced from their homes.
I met with Colleen Molloy, a volunteer at Leicester City of Sanctuary and Amjad Allowe, who is a refugee from Iraq and a qualified doctor. Amjad is struggling to access the English language qualification IELTS so that he can re-sit his medical exams and practice as a doctor in the UK.
Refugees who have fled their homes have experienced some terrible things and we must try to help develop, integrate and welcome refugees to the UK. I will be writing to Robert Goodwill MP, Minister of State for Immigration, to ask that more is done to support refugees who have professional qualifications gaining access to English language qualifications.
