Liz blasts Tories for additional £2.5 million cuts to Leicester West primary schools

Under the Tories, £2.5 million will be cut in real terms from primary schools in Leicester West next year. Five schools will lose more than £250k, with cuts between £400 to £600 per-pupil.

My mum was a primary school teacher and she taught me that getting a good education is the key to a better life. But the Tories’ have cut school budgets to the bone, and parents, pupils and teachers are seeing the impact every day.

It is an absolute disgrace that the Government has left a generation of children to pay the price for austerity.

That’s why I’m fighting to reverse these cuts and make sure our schools have the money they need. I’m also campaigning for:

  • a Sure Start Children’s Centre in every community;
  • 30 hours’ free childcare for all 2, 3 and 4 year olds;
  • a year’s paid maternity leave, up from 9 months now.
