I’ve been campaigning with Abbey ward Councillors to get Biffa to clean up the awful smells coming from its site in Mowmacre Hill. I held a public meeting yesterday to see whether residents felt Biffa’s changes to their operations strategy had improved the smell in the area.
Biffa announced further proposed improvements but with the smell continuing to overcome local residents I have asked for more weekly inspections from Leicester City Council and for Biffa to revisit the height of their chimney stacks.
The Environment Agency and Leicester City Council stressed the importance of reporting smells coming from the site directly to Biffa. You can do this by calling or texting Biffa on 07921385710.
I will continue to monitor this issue very closely and will be holding a further meeting in October. If you would like to attend this meeting, please do get in touch with my office either by writing to 42 Narborough Road, Leicester, LE3 0BQ, via email at liz.kendall.mp {at} parliament(.)uk or phone on 0116 2044980.
