There are over 3000 people living with dementia in Leicester and an increasing number of us are seeing the condition in our own families.
Too many are left without the vital support they desperately need. This isn’t good for them, and it’s bad for the tax payer too because more elderly people with dementia end up in hospital or a care home when they could have received better support elsewhere.
The Alzheimer’s Society play an incredibly important role in helping people live with dementia whilst maintaining their independence. I undertook their “dementia friends” training last year. More recently, I enjoyed visiting their Dementia Café at the Brite Centre with the charity’s Chief Executive, Jeremy Hughes.
