End Child Poverty

ecp-colour-logo

This week, End Child Poverty published new figures on the level of child poverty in the UK. The report shows that in Leicester West, nearly 37% of children are living in poverty after housing costs are taken into account, and that our city is one of the worst 20 areas in the country.

These are shocking figures and will only be made worse by the Government’s new Welfare Cap that came into effect on Monday 7 November. In Leicester, the Welfare Cap will make 3000 children worse off, with 75% of those penalised being lone parents.

The Government must take action now to eradicate child poverty, and to change their damaging welfare plans which will only push more people into poverty.
