Liz calls for more support in debate on Leicester lockdown

Last night, I spoke in a debate about some of the restrictions applied to Leicester during the local lockdown.

I raised a number of serious concerns about how this whole process has been handled, the impact that Leicester’s extended lockdown has had on the lives of people in our city and the support we need now to minimise this impact, and ensure our city has the best possible recovery.

Another really important issue that many of my constituents have been asking about is why they are still not allowed to meet their families in their gardens. So, during the debate, I called on the Government to set out the evidence it has on this and to publish it online urgently.

Finally, I highlighted the very real problems we are experiencing with testing in Leicester – which are being mirrored across the country. Because sorting the test and trace system is essential to getting on top of this virus and avoiding wherever possible another total lockdown.
