Liz attends Leicester’s vigil for Ukraine

A year on from Russia’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine, I joined residents outside the Town Hall in Leicester to remember the unimaginable hardship faced by the Ukrainian people, including by all those families who have fled here to our community in Leicester. We continue to welcome you with open arms. But we know you are desperately waiting for the day when you can return safely home.

We have seen your bravery with our own eyes. Despite the appalling suffering inflicted upon you and your people, Ukraine remains steadfast and united.

Our support for you is as firm and unstinting today as it was on that dark day one year ago. May I take this opportunity to thank Leicester Ukrainian Club who do such an incredible job in our community.
