I’m passionate about improving care for elderly and disabled people. Since I was elected as the MP for Leicester West, I’ve been campaigning hard to improve care standards, make sure families get the help they need, and ensure care workers get decent pay and are properly trained.
So I was delighted to help launch an important report on the care sector, by Baroness Denise Kingsmill. The report calls for an end to 15 minute home care visits, better training for care assistants, and an end to low pay and exploitative working conditions like zero hours contracts.
As we all live for longer, more of us will need care and support. I’m determined to make sure these issues are given the priority they deserve, here in Leicester and in Westminster. You can read the full Kingsmill report here, and see media coverage here and here.
