Liz backs Macmillan and DMU project to help cancer patients

Macmillan cropped

For the past year, Macmillan Cancer Support and De Montfort University have been working together to improve care for cancer patients.

This fantastic initiative is making a real difference in Leicester. Just one example is a mobile team of student volunteers who travel around the city talking to cancer patients and their families from our Asian and Chinese communities who may not know what support and information is available.

As well as boosting the number of Macmillan volunteers, the project helps DMU students who are studying to become nurses, pharmacists or NHS managers to improve their communication skills and understanding of cancer patients’ needs. This kind of partnership is really important to improving the quality of care, which is why it gets my full support.
