To mark this year’s Living Wage Week, I visited the London Borough of Islington to celebrate the progress the Labour Council has made on ensuring care staff get fair pay.
Islington has ensured that all their home care staff are paid the Living Wage, including for travel time between appointments, and put an end to zero-hours contracts. In addition, care users now have much more control over when and how they get support, and don’t have to face 15 minute home visits, unless they specifically request them.
Islington is showing the way forward on ensuring care staff get a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work. A future Labour Government will back these efforts, which you can read more about here.
