Liz Comments on Organised Violence Across the Country

As you know, over the weekend in Leicester there were two arrests and the police issued a dispersal order across the East of the city in light of organised violence that we have seen across the country.

Thankfully, the violence seen elsewhere was not replicated here in Leicester. I am very proud of all our communities for pulling together to reject violence and hate. I am also grateful to our local police for their hard work and efforts. However, we must remain vigilant at all times.

As the Prime Minister and Home Secretary have said, there is no excuse or justification for the mindless destruction, violence and far-right thuggery we have seen in cities and towns across Britain. All those who have been involved in these despicable acts should expect to feel the full force of the law.

The Government has announced a new rapid response process, meaning mosques at risk of violent disorder can be offered additional security personnel, providing communities with vital support and reassurance.

My role as your local MP here in Leicester is to do everything in my power to support our communities and local police, and to work to promote the unity, peace and respect that everyone in our city deserves.
