I recently met with Mir Juma, the Chief Executive of Emmaus Leicestershire and Rutland, to hear about the fantastic work the charity does to reduce homelessness.
Emmaus provide a home, and offer skills, training and emotional support to help homeless people get back on their feet. Research shows that for every £1 spent on Emmaus’s work, there is an £11 return on social and economic investment.
Emmaus is very concerned that the Government’s plans to include supporting housing in the Local Housing cap will result in cuts to the support they are able to provide. This is something I have already campaigned (see here) and I will once again raise this with ministers.
