British Gas is a big local employer, as well as an important national company, and I recently visited their Energy Academy in Leicester to meet with young people who’ve successfully completed the BG apprenticeship scheme.

The apprentices told me how the two-year training programme has given them a range of skills, including in health and safety and the latest energy saving devices. They said it was the combination of learning in the Academy and ‘on the job’ training that was really useful.

The Academy has trained 1000 apprentices since it opened in 2009 and is now looking to expand.  I want to make sure more young people in Leicester West know about the fantastic opportunities this programme offers.
