Earlier today, I met with unpaid carers in a meeting organised by Carers UK. I was struck by the incredible resilience of the carers I spoke to and their dedication to the loved ones they care for, but it was clear that they need more support.
Covid-19 has meant that carers have had to take on more hours of care, often with very little support. But even before the pandemic, many carers were struggling. Despite the huge contribution carers make to society, too often they feel invisible. This needs to change. The Government, the NHS and wider society must better recognise the value of carers and provide them with the support they deserve.
