Liz sees how technology can improve patients’ health

Web Liz Kendall meets June and Mary

I recently visited the Tunstall centre in Doncaster, to see how simple technology can help elderly people and patients with long-term health conditions stay healthy and living at home.

Jane Smith is 70 and suffers from a heart condition. She showed me how measuring her oxygen levels and blood pressure helps her to better manage her condition, with back up support from specialist nurses.  She told me she feels much better than she used to, and that she likes the technology “because I’m in charge”.

I was really worried to hear that patients in several areas of the country have had their technology devices taken away from them, as party of the Government’s NHS cuts. This is something I’m determined to pursue over the coming weeks.
