Today I set out Labour’s offer to break down the barriers that have resulted in almost 1 in 8 young people out of work, education or training – the highest level since 2016.
To grow the economy, transform opportunity and give everyone a stake in our country’s success
My speech to the Demos think tank was broadcast live here and you can read my speech in full here. You can read more about my speech in the Mirror here.
In my speech I set out Labour’s offer:
Specialist mental health support in every school & community
1,000 new careers advisers
Overhauling skills & reforming the Tories failed apprenticeship levy
New employment advisers in Labour’s Young Futures Hubs
Fixing the Access to Work scheme for young disabled people
This is our commitment to young people. We will invest in you and help you build a better future with all the chances and choices this brings. Because unlike the Tories, Labour will not let a generation of young people go off track before they’ve even begun.
After the speech, I visited the brilliant Euston Skills Centre in Camden to learn about their work supporting young people into good jobs, training and apprenticeships. Catch up on a fantastic visit here:
