Today I spoke in a Westminster Hall Debate on medical cannabis prescriptions for children with epilepsy. Three years ago, the then Home Secretary, Sajid Javid, changed the law to allow for medical cannabis to be prescribed in special circumstances on the NHS, including in the treatment of some severe cases of epilepsy.
Since then, however, very few people have been able to access this treatment, leaving parents affected incredibly anxious about the health of their children.
I set out what measures the Government could take to make progress on this issue, including supporting more research, implementing recommendations made by NHS England on medical cannabis, and looking at how we can support parents currently paying for the treatment.
