Liz stands up for people with learning disabilities

You might have heard about the scandalous treatment of people with leaning disabilities at Winterbourne View hospital.

Following a review into this awful case, on 10th December the Government made a statement on the future of the care for people with learning disabilities. I responded to the announcements from the opposition front bench.

The Minister announced a number of welcome measures. However, I remain concerned that the Government’s proposals aren’t clear or strong enough to prevent a similar tragedy from ever happening again. I pressed the Minister to strengthen their plans, and to take all necessary steps to ensure everyone with learning disabilities, including those with challenging behaviours, receive high quality, decent and humane care and support.
