2.6m people are now out of work due to long-term sickness – a record high – with many citing mental health problems.
And so I was so pleased to visit Leicester’s new Neighbourhood Mental Health Café this morning to meet with staff and hear from those visiting this invaluable service in the heart of our community. Their door is open and I would encourage anybody in Leicester who needs their support to pop along or give them a call.
Labour’s plan for mental health has early intervention and prevention at its heart. We will recruit 8,500 additional mental health staff, paid for by closing tax loopholes, and bring in the first ever long-term, whole-Government plan to improve outcomes for people with mental health needs.
