In their latest Budget the Tories decided to cut the support that disabled people need to cook, clean and get to work – things that so many of us take for granted but that can incur substantial additional costs when living with a disability. Many will now lose an average of £3,500 each year. At the same time, the Tories are giving an extra £630 million to the very wealthiest in the form of a tax break.
Cutting support for those who most need it goes against the values of a decent society. Under the Tories, the system is failing both to help people who can work and provide decent support for those who can’t.
That’s why I voted against these changes and challenged the Prime Minister about them in Parliament.
