After fourteen years of Tory failure, too many children in Leicester and across the country are growing up in poverty, blighting their lives now and damaging their future prospects.
That’s why the Prime Minister has appointed me and the Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson, to lead a new taskforce on developing an ambitious child poverty strategy.
We will turn the tide on rising poverty levels, so that every child no matter where they come from has the best start in life.
