Improving care and support for elderly and disabled people is one of the biggest challenges we face in Leicester, and across the country.
I recently spoke in a debate about the Government’s Care Bill, in my role as Labour’s Shadow Minister for Care and Older People. I welcome the new rights for users and carers in the Bill, but these risk being meaningless if they can’t be delivered on the ground as council care budgets are cut to the bone. The Government also isn’t being straight with people about their plans to change the way care is funded in future.
You can read my speech here and media coverage in the Telegraph and Daily Mail. I have also written about Labour’s plans to improve care and support here.
