I recently visited the team at Beaumont Lodge Neighbourhood centre. During my visit I heard about their community garden, the plans for their summer fair and their community cafe.

I also met with Beth and a group of young people taking part in E2 Strike Out Programme which offers vocational courses to help young people who have difficulty accessing mainstream education provision to overcome their barriers to learning.

I also heard from Martin about the difficulties they are facing due to cuts to their budget. If they are unable to source additional funding, the centre may not be able to survive putting all these projects and more at risk.

I will continue to do all I can to support the team at Beaumont Lodge Neighbourhood Centre.

On Friday 9th March 2012 I held a community drop-in at the Beaumont Lodge Neighbourhood Association in Beaumont Leys Ward. I had written to over 500 local residents to invite them to meet me and discuss their concerns for the local area.

Taylor

I recently visited Taylor and Bloxham, a local print company that employs over 200 people across 3 locations in Leicester.

The recession, and increased use of the internet, means Taylor and Bloxham has to work really hard to develop and change their business. The Chief Executive Chris Bowen told me investing in equipment, technology and staff is essential to ensuring the company can continue to thrive in future.

Government initiatives, like the Funding for Lending scheme, need to understand the real needs of local companies like Taylor and Bloxham and this is something I will be taking up with Ministers in Parliament.
