The public consultation on the Government’s review of Children’s Heart Surgery

On 16th June, I joined hundreds of people from across Leicester and as far afield as Sheffield and York to show our support for Glenfield’s Congenital Heart Centre at the public consultation on the Government’s review of Children’s Heart Surgery,

So many people wanted to have their say that two consultation events had to be organised.  At both meetings, we heard from doctors and nurses about their work, and from parents and other family members about the excellent, high quality care their children receive. Parents also stressed the importance of the ongoing help and support they get from the Centre, the fact that Glenfield provides care for the whole of the East Midlands and that it would be difficult for many families to travel elsewhere, as well as the vital role Glenfield plays as the country’s leading specialist centre for Ecmo.

I strongly support Option A in the Government’s review – which guarantees the future of Glenfield’s Congenital Heart Centre – as the best option for Leicester and the country as a whole. I have already held a debate in Parliament about the Government’s plans, raised the issue directly with the Prime Minister, tabled an Early Day Motion in support of Option A and hosted a meeting in the House of Commons with staff and parents from Glenfield and MPs from across the region.

The consultation on the review of children’s heart surgery closes on July 1st. If you haven’t already done so, please sign the petition being organised by the Heartlink charity, by clicking on the link below.
