On Saturday, Ed Miliband became the leader of the Labour Party. I know Ed will be a great leader and that everyone will unite behind him. No-one wants Labour to be split or divided – that’s one lesson we’ve definitely learnt from the past.
In his first speech as leader, Ed said he believes Labour needs to change if we’re going to regain people’s trust and support. We can and should be proud of our record and the very real achievements Labour made in Government but we also need a hefty dose of humility, to recognise and take responsibility for the mistakes we made.
We’ve also got to convince people we share their concerns, that we’re on their side and that we’ve got the courage and vision to win again. With Ed as our new leader, I know that’s exactly what we’ll do.
