“People will look at the Tory’s and say: what have the last twelve years been for?”@leicesterliz says that Labour need to show they have a credible plan for the future, as under the Tories the basics- seeing a GP, getting from A to B, good schools- “have gone”.#Peston pic.twitter.com/dw0sSgtYDI

Last Wednesday, I was a guest on ITV’s Peston show. I was also on Sky’s PMQs Panel and BBC Radio 5 Live.
Amongst other things, I talked about the crisis in the NHS, the Government’s failure to prevent strikes and the soaring cost of energy bills. On each of these issues, the Government could be taking more effective immediate action, but I also argued we need to move beyond sticking plaster politics and adopt long term solutions to the issues we face. Whether this is investing in renewables to bring down energy bills for good or delivering investment and reform in the NHS to make it fit for the future.
Long term thinking is central to Labour’s vision under Keir Starmer. Under his leadership Labour has made huge progress, throughout 2023 we will keep working to show the public our positive vision and plan for the future.
