I recently met Inspector Ant Dales who is the commander for the Hinckley Road Local Police Unit, which covers Braunstone, Rowley Fields, Fosse, Westcotes and Western Park.
We discussed the steps the police are taking to counter increases in certain types of crime in the area. For example, a high profile poster campaign has been running to warn people of the increased danger of mobile phone theft around Narborough Road. Inspector Dales also highlighted the positive impact that alley gates have had on the number of burglaries in the area. There is also a cycle lock scheme, where you can buy a D-lock for only £5 from Hinckley Road Police station.
I strongly support schemes like this because, wherever possible, we need to prevent crime from happening in the first place. If you want to keep up to date with what’s happening at Hinckley Road LPU, you can find out more here or follow Inspector Dales on Twitter @HinckleyRoadLPU
