Labour is abolishing Ofwat in the biggest overhaul of water since privatisation

After 14 years of inaction, our waterways are filled with toxic sewage and customers have faced massive bill hikes, including my Leicester West constituents.

A new regulator will take responsibility of water functions across Ofwat, Environment Agency, Natural England and Drinking Water Inspectorate, ending complexity that gets in the way of delivering for customers

This Labour Government has put in place the building blocks for root and branch reform of our water sector to clean up our waters and protect consumers.

Labour is also creating a water ombudsman, with the legal powers to resolve disputes to put money back in people’s pockets.

These are just more measures to tackle the crisis in the water sector. The government has already acted by investing in upgrading pipes and sewage systems, banning unfair bonuses for the bosses of the worst polluters and reinvesting company fines into local clean-up projects.
