This week, I was at the Alzheimer’s Society with the Shadow Health Secretary Andy Burnham MP discussing how we can improve NHS and social care services. We were joined by a whole range of organisations including Mind, Mencap, Scope, Marie Curie, Sue Ryder, Brook Sexual Health, the British Red Cross and the Royal British Legion. There was a lot of support for our vision of ‘whole person care’ – making sure people’s physical, mental and social needs are met together, instead of struggling between different parts of the system – and lots of positive suggestions about how we can make it work in practice.
