Liz on the breakfast interview round

On Thursday, I was the Labour spokesperson on the morning media round, having interviews with BBC Breakfast, Good Morning Britain, ITV News, Sky News (clip 1) (clip 2) LBC News and Times Radio. You can watch clips from of the interviews back at the links above.

During the media round, I was asked about Labour’s shocking new research into the time that cancer patients have to wait for care.

Last year, 500,000 suspected cancer patients waited longer to the recommended two weeks to see a specialist after being referred by a GP. 5 in 6 Trusts saw a patient wait more than 6 months to start their treatment last year. And cancer care has got worse for patients every year since the Tories came to power in 2010.

Labour’s plan to bring down NHS waiting times and get patients seen and treated faster includes:

  • Doubling medical school places to train 15,000 doctors a year
  • Training 10,000 more nurses and midwives every year
  • Doubling the number of district nurses qualifying each year
  • Training 5,000 more health visitors.

The plans will be paid for by abolishing the non-dom tax status, to make sure that people who live and work in Britain pay their taxes here.
