On Friday 18 May I had the honour of presenting Leicester College’s Adult Learner Awards. The ceremony took place as part of Adult Learners week which aims to celebrate and inspire lifelong learning.
I was especially pleased to present awards to my constituents Mark Richardson, from Braunstone Frith, Portia Arthur and Priscilla Dube from Beaumont Leys, and Rehema Katando from New Parks. They all won certificates and trophies because of their hard work and dedication, and excellent standards in their studies.
I was really struck by what Mark said to me as we chatted before the ceremony. He told me that doing his Construction course had taught him not only vital skills, but also how to fight for the things in life he wanted. He also said doing the course had given him something to show his children about what he and they could achieve.
