Today (20 April 2010) I’ve published my Declaration of Interests (click here for more details). This is voluntary for Parliamentary Candidates, but I’m doing it in response to the recommendation of the Committee on Standards in Public Life that “all candidates at parliamentary elections should publish, at nomination, a register of interests including the existence of other paid jobs and whether they intend to continue to hold them if elected.”
I’ve also made a series of pledges to people in Leicester West:
- I will always put local people first, including by running a fully staffed local office that’s open to the public 5 days a week, and holding regular surgeries across the constituency.
- I will be open and accountable, producing an annual report for constituents, holding public meetings with local residents, and publishing my expenses online.
- I will be a full time MP: I won’t take on any other paid job outside Parliament and I’ll continue to live in Leicester West, as I do now.
