On 28th November I spoke in a Parliamentary debate about the G8 Dementia Summit, which will take place in London in a couple of weeks.
I welcomed the fact that the G8 summit seeks to boost international efforts on clinical research, as it is essential we work towards developing effective drugs and treatments for this devastating disease.
But to really address the challenge of dementia we need to do far more than invest in research. In my speech, I argued it is equally vital that we improve the quality of dementia care and shift the focus of services towards prevention. Right now, the growing crisis in social care is the biggest threat to people living with dementia and the Government’s policies are making the situation worse, not better.
