I’m completely fed up with the terrible smells from the Biffa Plant in Mowmacre. Alongside local residents and the Abbey Ward Councillors, I have been demanding action from Biffa over a number of years, including that they build new chimney stacks. We have also pressed for proper enforcement from the authorities.
At our most recent public meeting, Biffa announced that they will finally be building the stacks and that this would help deal with the smells – just as we have been arguing. Following spot checks by the Environment Agency, Leicester City Council also confirmed that it is in the process of imposing a number of significant fines for breach of Biffa’s contract. You can read coverage in the mercury here.
Whilst I welcome these steps, we have been promised solutions many times in the past so we will believe it when we smell it.
