Inspector Nicola Preston has been appointed the West Area Commander, which is a new role that’s been created following the shakeup of our local police. Hinckley Road and Beaumont Leys Local Policing Units have had to effectively merge so Inspector Preston now has a big job.
Many of my constituents have been worried about the changes to our police, particularly their impact on neighbourhood policing and the loss of New Parks Police station, but I’ve taken these issues up with the Police and Crime Commissioner. My discussion with Inspector Preston focussed more on the local instances of crime and antisocial behaviour that people have raised with me, including mini motors near the Stadium Estate and in Beaumont Leys. We also discussed a recent rise in car break-ins, which provides a good opportunity for me to remind all of my constituents to keep your valuable items hidden when leaving your car.
