It was a pleasure to speak to members and trade unionists about the future of social care.

Since the start of the pandemic, trade unions have been at the forefront of worker’s rights. They have been fighting for key safety measures like PPE and key worker testing to be implemented in the workplace. This work is vital for frontline staff like care workers, who have gone the extra mile to support vulnerable people during this crisis.

However, Covid-19 has exposed the fundamental flaws and failings in the social care system. We need to give care workers the recognition they deserve, and work together to transform the social care system with a new long-term funding settlement.
