Liz meets with residents of Mowmacre Hill to discuss their continued concerns about the smell from the local waste management plant.

The residents of Mowmacre Hill have experienced problems from foul odours since the Biffa plant opened at Hoods Close in 2003. Residents tell me that their quality of life has been ruined by the smell and they are unable to sit in their gardens, hang their washing out, or just pop to the shops when the smell is bad.

On Thursday I met with residents from Mowmacre and representatives from Biffa, Leicester City Council and the Environment Agency to discuss these problems.  Since being elected in 2010 I have worked hard to try and find a solution with the residents and agencies.  Biffa have made significant improvements to their plant in Hoods Close since then, and there have been some improvements. However, the residents are still finding the smell unbearable on certain days.  At the meeting residents told me of their continued frustrations that the smell still occurs and the effect that this has on their day-to-day lives.

It is unacceptable for the residents of Mowmacre to have to live with such a stench and I will continue to campaign with the residents and work closely with Biffa, Leicester City Council and the Environment Agency until a satisfactory solution is found.
