You may be aware of the work I’ve been doing with Wastecycle to address resident’s concerns about the site’s operation in Abbey ward. One of the major problems raised was the amount of traffic from HGV’s accessing the site on Thurcaston Road and Wesley Street.
Belgrave St Peter’s CE Primary School is situated on the corner of Thurcaston Road and Abbey Lane and a number of parents with children who attend the school have also raised concerns about the traffic dangers in the area.
Last Friday, I held a meeting with the school, parents, the Council’s Highways Team, Wastecycle and the police to look at what action can be taken to make the area safer. A number of actions were discussed, including increasing signs in the area, changing the speed of traffic lights to give more time for children and their parents to cross the road and reducing the speed limit on Wesley Street.
