In the week that we heard that the country’s economy had officially gone back into recession, the Walkers Factory in Beaumont Leys bucked the trend, offering a ray of light to some of the 4500 or so of my constituents who are currently looking for work. PepsiCo, owners of Walkers, plan to invest £15.2m in a new production line, creating 110 new jobs.
I visited the site back in January and am really pleased about this most recent development, which was also reported by the BBC and the Leicester Mercury. This is exactly the kind of inward investment my constituency needs. I will always work with companies like PepsiCo to support jobs and I’ll continue to press the Government for a better economic strategy and for Labour’s 5 Point Plan for jobs and growth.
