I recently visited a supported home for people with learning disabilities in which is run by the national organisation Dimensions.
It was a real pleasure to meet with residents and hear at first-hand how important it is to get support based on their individual needs. One woman told me that because of the help she gets, she now feels confident enough to work two days a week, which has made a real difference to her life.
Services like those at Thornholme Close treat people as individuals and focus on what they can do, not what they can’t do. That’s something I am campaigning for as the Shadow Minister for Care and Older People. You can read more about my visit here.
